This is a super duper specific but also VERY easy and VERY budget-friendly way to make a refreshing, nutritious, and super satisfying Orange Julius. As it always seems to be with the best recipes, this was my original idea, but then my mom made it even better.
We are seriously a great duo (me and my momma), when it comes to easy and yummy.
Mostly because neither of us was ever a good “cook” but have embraced uncooking and health so fully! (And honestly, how could we not, when ALL of my health problems just *poof* went away after just days on 100% raw?!)
So, here you have it!
INGREDIENTS
2 oranges (see the instructions!)
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cups ice
INSTRUCTIONS
- Peel the oranges, using a knife so that you can leave much of the pith (the white part) but very little of the peel.
- After peeling, cut your oranges in half, then halve those quarters. This will give you a chance to remove any seeds, and if there are no seeds will cut it up into more blendable pieces anyways.
- Add the water and ice to your blender, and BLEND. If you have a less “fancy” blender, you may need more water. For our Vita-Mix, this was perfect.
That’s it!
To garnish, cut a thin strip of the WHOLE circle of an orange, and then cut from the bottom to the middle to make a slit and fit it over your glass.
This makes 1-3 servings for a total of about 24 ounces.
The white pith/albedo right underneath the peel of an orange is FULL of bioflavonoids which help prevent bruising and keeps your skin healthy. Make sure to juice your oranges with the pith intact like I do!”

A TOUCH OF EXTRA RECIPE DETAIL
You can see that a LOT of the pith is still there, and we just cut up the orange first before tossing it into the blender.
So check out how little water there is in the Vita-Mix! BUT, as soon as it gets blending, you can see that it works out just fine!
I’VE ALREADY HEARD THIS COMPARED TO A MIMOSA (JUST ADD SOME SPARKLING WATER!) AND HAD SOME FABULOUS FEEDBACK… I HOPE YOU WILL GIVE IT A TRY! THERE’S SOMETHING AWESOME ABOUT SIMPLE INGREDIENTS MAKING A GREAT RECIPE! PLEEEEEASE LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES IF YOU DO TRY IT.

Thanks so much ! Sipping one now, as I type, but I added half a grapefruit….delicious ! Happy Sunday
And…I’m thinking I may use coconut water tomorrow morning
I love how simple it was and I just happened to have two oranges left. My whole family enjoyed it! Thanks again Eva!
Your whole family?! AWESOME!!! Happy Sunday Chanelle!
Eva, You, once again, rock the globe! (no pun on your pregnancy intended!)…or at least the hemisphere!!!
Hey Lanise!! lol! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hmm… delicious but I may have left on too much pith/peel. I peeled it with a potato peeler and it tastes slightly bitter. Added a bit of agave but it didn’t improve it. Still delicious though!
Hey Jeanne!
Did you have some of the peel on, or only the white parts? Lemon and lime peels are great in small quantities, but the peel of an orange or grapefruit is quite difficult to digest and not something I would generally recommend eating.
The OTHER thing that comes to mind is whether or not the oranges were organic and sweet or if they were perhaps either not organic or not quite ripe?
Wish I were right there to make it along with you and see exactly what the situation is! This DEFINITELY is not as sweet as regular OJ, I will say that…
I hope something in there is helpful to you!!
