I warn you now. This video is not for the faint of heart. And I sincerely doubt many people can think through the facts I posted below, coupled with the very vivid reality here, and enjoy dairy ever again.
Information from Wikipedia regarding Mastitis in Dairy Cows:
- “This disease costs the US dairy industry about 1.7 to 2 billion USD each year.” [Note from Eva. Think: If it's that expensive, it's that common.]
- “This potentially fatal mammary gland infection is the most common disease in dairy cattle in the United States.”
- On top of it, several resources indicated that after treatment, these cows can continue to be used for milk!
So what does this mean?
It means, unless you are raising and milking your own animals, you have no way of knowing whether the milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, dairy creamer, or any other dairy product was affected in some way by this disease.
It also means, that because this disease is so rampantly common, that just consuming commercial dairy products is contributing to the truly disgusting diseases dairy cows face. They feel pain too. They are not machines, even though we attach machines to them to collect the milk that would have been used for their baby cows. Aka calves. Aka VEAL ~ the expensive and sought-after meat from calves who were killed so the momma cow could continue providing humans the milk from another species.
Truly shocking when you think about it all.

Love to you for taking the time to see this and think about it! If I had seen this years ago, I may have never had milk from that moment forward. I know now there will simply never be an exception. There can’t be. I can’t have this blood on my hands!

That was disgusting!
Hope you didn’t lose your lunch when you saw it Stephanie! lol!
The video isn’t disgusting, it looks to be a routine procedure. Aside from the volume of fluids, it doesn’t look much different than draining a cyst. Not knowing what mastitis is, upon searching, I discovered it’s actually a common affliction of nursing (human) mothers. It’s explained as being an infection caused by either clogged milk ducts, bacteria transmitted from her baby’s mouth, or infrequent breast-feeding leading to over-filled breasts. It’s suggested that a mother continue and preferably increase breast-feeding her baby to help clear-up or avoid this infection. Still shocked, or disgusted? No offense, but this post suggests either naivete, weak stomach, or an alternate agenda.
Hi Paulo! The thing about all the issues that can also happen with humans are that they can be prevented by making sensible changes in lifestyle and/or eating a diet that does not include foods which cause the problems in the first place. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma, etc. are common, but it doesn’t make them any less OK for us to have or any less preventable. I have seen person after person change their lifestyle and *poof* be healed. It’s amazing actually!
My agenda is just to be a help. My husband is not vegan — many people I know are not into raw food or veganism — and I entirely accept them as they are. But there is still a lot to know about what they are (we all are!) putting into their bodies and being a part of.
Still shocked. Still disgusted. Still way past naive. Still have a weak stomach for what is happening to people and animals for no good reason other than misinformation and money. Still have an agenda to try to be a help in some small or big way!
And still glad you stopped by.
Not everyone takes the time to learn more about what they are reading. I applaud YOU for that.
Sorry, I’m unfamiliar with this website. I arrived here as a result of clicking multiple links from an unrelated internet search. Thought the raw food diet was in reference to the paleo diet, big oops, lol!!! Regardless, I applaud your interest in sensible foods and animal welfare.
Hey Paulo — no worries!! I’m glad you came!!
It IS related to the Paleo diet in a way actually! I have several friends who have taken interest in raw who started with the Paleo diet. The biggest thing they have in common is that they both cut out the processed crap that was never made for humans (even though we make it for humans!). There is nothing about the recipes on here that would conflict with following the Paleo diet, but I don’t have recipes for meat on here (grass-fed or otherwise) because I would not be interested in eating them uncooked and this is an uncooking site. I also have that weak stomach (;-)) for knowing far too much about the awfulness that happens in the meat industry these days.
Hope you will come back.

I have been excluding milk from my diet for many years now. I have been eating soy milk choc pudding for a treat. I limit my cheese intake and I use very little butter. My weakness is cake at times but for the most part, I NEVER drink dairy! I was drinking soy milk till I found out the horrors of GMO soy protein. I switched to non sweet almond milk and I absolutely LOVE it. I try to buy this in organic when ever possible. Just last night I was reading the comparisons to Almond milk and fat free dairy milk. Not only is non sweeten almond milk only 35 to 40 caleries compared to 80 in fat free milk. here are some other benefits to making the switch…
Nutritional Facts about Almond Milk
Almond milk is rich in protein and omega fatty acids.
Almonds milk does not contain cholesterol and saturated fats
Almonds milk has high levels of vitamin E and unsaturated fats
Almond milk contains minerals such as zinc, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron.
I abhore drinking milk from a cows teet… The fact that the sows go through hell being pregnant year after year with their babies being taken from them and disguarded like total trash. Leaving both mother and calf in serious distress is just soooooo morally wrong, with or without puss MILK is not something I want to adhere to!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the info Rose!!
Almonds are so wonderful! And yeah, the more you learn, gosh, it gets to be very strange and like from another universe to think ya ever were part of that. I can’t believe I once drank milk without knowing about this stuff! For me it’s not a food/drink at all — it’s quite strange actually!
Thank goodness for finding out about these things — better late than never!!

That’s just ANOTHER disgusting and sad reality about cow’s milk. I quit drinking cow’s milk years ago after hearing about all the hormones injected into dairy cows.
From an article at Wikipedia about milk production hormones: “The United States is the only developed nation to permit humans to drink milk from cows given artificial growth hormone. Posilac was banned from use in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and all European Union countries (currently numbering 27), by 2000 or earlier.”

Hello again Laraw!! <3
Yikes.
We really are lagging behind, huh? Can't even believe the wild experimentation happening on people here. Just recently watched "The World According to Monsanto" at a local veggie potluck, and I learned a lot of new stuff about the milk proteins being changed too b/c of the hormones! Scary stuff!!
Thank you for sharing the article!!
